Last week, Mrs. Retno and her group presented their International journal about digital games. The general contain of the journal was about the recommendation of the journal authors to utilize digital game to increase students interest in learning science. It caused by there were significant decrease of Australian students in studying science in all level, from junior high school, until post-graduate (Phd) level. So, Australian government so worry with this phenomenon.
We tried to disscussed about it and related it with
problem in our country. We thinked that there were some differencies between
condition in Australia and in Indonesia. From interest aspect of science class
we thinked in Indonesia is not decrease, even always increase. We can look at
much Senior High School, where most of students choose science class than
social or language class. We can look also in academy or university, science
department is always get much students. But I think the motivation of
Indonesian students is not really straight. I
say like that because I know some students who choose science class just
motivated from prestige or job chance. We know that Indonesia more respecting
science students than social students, for example in military, state
accountancy academy, state statistic academy etc receiving. I hear, they just
accept science student and reject social or language students. Some company
also more favour science student to be their worker. That makes “hidden”
motivation of much Indonesian student studying science.
